Interaction Design Sketchbook

this article explains how certain things are important in the world of design. The writer starts off with sketching. He explains how sketching is important because it takes an idea in your imagination and brings it out into the real world. It is also important because sketching are the begging stages in the design process. The second section talks about the importance of interaction, or industrial design. Industrial design is important because it takes ideas and makes them into physical things that people can hold and or use. The article then talks about the three question that all interactive designers ask, "How do you do?", "How do you feel?", "How do you know?". These questions help make products more useful for everyday use. The third section goes into how designers come up with ideas and the actions they take to make them as effective as possible. In order to start they must come up with a problem, then they deiced who they would be helping by solving this problem. After that they run tests to figure out the most effective way to solve the problem. The fourth and final part of the reading covers paradigms. This explains how design must be able to adapt to the increasing use of technology. The process of this section goes through how technology is starting to find it's way into every aspect of our life whether we realize it or not. Designers have to find a way to incorporate technology into their products if they want to stay competitive.

Ethnography article 1 & 2

Article 1:

The job of ethnography is to show why the world assigns certain meaning to certain things. an example given in the article is how it's an unspoken rule that you wear black to a funeral, because of the significants that we give black in its relationship with death. Ethnographers learn more from looking inside of a persons world than they do talking to a person. This is because what people say and what they do are not always the same thing. The steps in the ethnographic process are to,
1. Define the problem
2. Rethink the problem
3.Define the context
4. Define the sample
5. Make a Game plan
6. Enter the field
7. Analyze and interpret
8. Share the insight
9. Define opportunities
These skills help them understand the way society as a whole see's the world, and why we do some of the things the way that we do them.

Article 2:

The second article explains how ethnography and design can work hand and hand. Ethnography is important with design because in order to make a product that will appeal to people, you have to understand what they want. Ethnography helps designers see past what they think is useful and see what other people need. The use of ethnography can hep us understand the meaning behind human rituals and the norms that we accept. It also gives us designers the most effective ways to communicate with the public. This article describes the steps of design differently.
1. Define the problem
2. Find the people
3.Plan an approach
4. Collect data
5. Analyze and interpret
6. Share insight
7.
